Background
ICA, one of Sweden's biggest grocery chains, aimed to merge its intranet into MinButik (an internally developed system), centralizing access for 1,300 Swedish stores. This consolidation was part of a broader effort to unify all (40+) IT systems, streamlining access to crucial information, news, and tools for store employees.
The goal? One app for everything! 🚀

The problem
The core challenge was integrating diverse systems into a unified, user-friendly platform while tackling information overload and maintaining role-based access. We needed to merge the intranet with MinButik, ensure mobile compatibility for store staff, and streamline navigation - all under a tight deadline. This complex task required balancing efficiency, clarity, and accessibility to create a seamless user experience.

What I did on this project
🔬 Conducted user research
✏️ Created wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes
🧩 Developed new UI components specific to intranet functionality
🧪 Conducted usability testing with store employees and iteratively refined the design
👥 Collaborated closely with developers, content teams, and other designers to ensure a smooth integration

The process and result
The process involved analyzing the existing intranet structure and content and identifying key areas for improvement. I conducted user interviews and surveys to understand how store employees used the current intranet.

We then redesigned the information architecture to fit within the MinButik ecosystem and I created new UI components specific to intranet functionality.

Prototypes for key user flows were developed and tested with actual store employees. I worked closely with content managers to streamline and organize intranet content.

The result? A sleek, mobile-first interface with a role-based dashboard, ensuring relevant info for different user types.

The successful integration provided a single access point for all store-related information, boosting efficiency and user experience. Store employees could now access all tools and info in one place, with an enhanced mobile experience for on-the-go access.
