When: March 2022 - September 2022

Background
ICA, one of Sweden's biggest grocery chains, internal design system needed updates to support new digital initiatives and improve consistency across its digital products. The transition from Sketch to Figma provided an opportunity to rebuild and improve the design system.

The problem
Inconsistencies across digital products and inefficiencies in the design-to-development process. The existing design system was not fully utilized and lacked documentation for effective use.

What I did on this project
🔄  Transitioned design assets from Sketch to Figma by creating new components and establishing design guidelines.
🤝 Collaborating with developers for component implementation
👨‍🏫 Training and supporting other designers in using the new system
🔄 Ongoing maintenance and updates to the design system

The process and result
The process of evolving IcaElements was iterative and collaborative. I began by auditing the existing design system and identifying areas for improvement. This informed my transition strategy from Sketch to Figma, which I executed in phases to minimize disruption.

Creating the new Figma library involved migrating components and reimagining them for better usability and consistency. We established a rigorous process for component creation, testing, and documentation.

This project showcased my ability to lead complex design initiatives, balance technical and creative needs, and drive organizational change through effective design systems.

Key outcomes:
A more robust and flexible design system that improved design consistency and development efficiency
Faster design iterations and prototyping capabilities
Improved collaboration between designers and developers
More consistent user experience across ICA's digital products
